Salary deductions in India

Employee PF, professional tax where applicable and income tax are common deductions, but a payslip can include other authorised items.

Employee PF and professional tax

Employee PF is commonly deducted from eligible wages according to the applicable setup. Professional tax is a state levy, so its applicability and amount can differ by location.

Income tax is not a flat payroll charge

Tax depends on taxable income, the regime selected and the deductions or exemptions that apply. The standard deduction and Section 87A rebate are separate tax concepts, not cash additions to salary.

Why the payslip may differ

Joining or exit dates, bonus timing, reimbursements, arrears, unpaid leave and employer payroll policies can all change a monthly payslip.

How to check a salary estimate

Start with the offer's annual CTC, then separate employer-side costs from gross pay. Check employee PF, professional tax, the selected regime and any eligible deductions against the offer letter or payslip. Multiply a stable monthly take-home by 12 only when you are calculating annual take-home—not annual CTC.

This guide is for general education. Rules, lender terms, bank terms and individual circumstances can change the result.

Frequently asked questions

Is the calculator result an official payslip?

No. It is a planning estimate. Confirm the salary breakup, payroll treatment and tax position with the employer.

Why can two similar CTC figures have different take-home pay?

Employer contributions, deductions, variable pay and individual tax choices can all differ.
