Fixed Deposits
FD interest and TDS
FD interest can be taxable according to applicable rules, and a bank may deduct TDS when required; the final tax position depends on the depositor and current law.
Interest and maturity are different
Maturity is the full amount at the end of tenure. Interest is the amount above principal. For a non-cumulative deposit, interest may be paid out periodically rather than added to maturity.
What TDS means
TDS is tax deducted at source by the bank when applicable. It is not automatically the final tax payable or a guarantee that no tax is due; reconcile it with applicable tax rules and records.
Check current information
Thresholds, declarations, rates and reporting requirements can change. Use the bank's certificate and current official guidance or a qualified professional for an individual tax decision.
Calculator limit
The FD calculator estimates compound-interest maturity only. It does not calculate TDS, tax liability, premature-withdrawal penalties or a bank-specific payout schedule.
This guide is for general education. Rules, lender terms, bank terms and individual circumstances can change the result.
